The Might & Magic Heroes series, once known as Heroes of Might and Magic, forms a cornerstone of the broader Might and Magic universe. Conceived by Jon Van Caneghem at New World Computing, it immerses players in strategic, turn-based battles set in enchanting realms. Commanding diverse forces of legendary beings—like dragons, elves, and undead warriors—participants navigate intricate campaigns, conquer territories, and outmaneuver rivals in quests for dominance. Each entry blends resource management, hero progression, and epic confrontations, appealing to fans of tactical fantasy adventures. Launched in 1995 with its inaugural release, the franchise quickly gained acclaim for its depth and replayability. New World Computing helmed the early titles, but the studio shuttered following the fourth game's debut in 2002. Ownership shifted first to 3DO, which absorbed the developer, and later to Ubisoft after 3DO's bankruptcy in 2003. Under Ubisoft's stewardship, the series evolved while preserving its core appeal. Nival Interactive took the reins for the fifth outing in 2006, revitalizing the formula with enhanced visuals and storytelling. Black Hole Entertainment followed with the sixth chapter in 2011, introducing fresh mechanics like reputation systems. Limbic Entertainment then handled expansions, updates for that installment, and the seventh game, which arrived on September 29, 2015, capping the main saga with sprawling maps and multiplayer options. Virtuos contributed the Shades of Darkness add-on for the sixth title, expanding its dark-themed content. Today, Ubisoft continues to nurture this enduring legacy, ensuring its strategic magic endures for new generations.
